Indonesia Water QCCQ

Water is a human right and Constitutional right

Quote

"All vital sources of production those essential for the lives of the people must be controlled by the state."

Comment

I completely disagree with the idea that any state should have control over the source of what allows the people to live. This, I think, is another way of enforcing a kind of slavery because if the state controls the water and food of its people, that state can practically force its people to do anything that the state wants.

Connection

I currently live in an area that has a somewhat decent control over my resources. In fact, it's the same source that has control everyone's resources that are necessary for living and I am sure that there are many others that feel the same way.

Question

Has there been anybody that tried to make a stand against the power that has control over their life's necessities?

The Dominant Policy Approach On The Right to Water

Quote

"Water is a common good, one of the basic public goods. At Suez, we are opposed to the private ownership of water resources precisely because, in our eyes, water is not a commodity."

Comment

Water is indeed a "common good" but the idea of someone "privately" owning a source of water is absurd. Water is one of nature's finest sources that gives us, the people, life. No one person truly owns water because it rightfully belongs to the planet.

Connection

My life, as well as everyone else, revolves around having available water and if someone were to own the water, they pretty much would own everyone else.

Question

Why would people see water as a non-commodity?

The Fights for the Right to Water

Quote

“It’s sure that the state takes the side of the industry!"

Comment

Since when does the state choose the people over the industry? Having power is all about having money and lots of it. The industries make money for the state and it makes perfect sense for the state to defend its "source of power."

Connection

Power is something that everyone wants by any means necessary. I think that the people shouldn't have to fear a reigning power such as a state but at the same time have boundaries and limits as to how far they concern themselves with business.

Question

Are the industries for the people, for the higher power, or for itself?

My Watershed

I live within San Diego and my house gets its fresh water from the San Diego River Watershed.Th sources of water in this particular watershed include the Lake Murray, El Capitan Reservoir, San Vincente Reservoir, Boulder Creek, and the Santee Lakes. Like everyone else in San Diego, my tap water comes from one of the sources; Northern California, The Colorado River, of Rainwater. The waste water goes through the sewers, through pipes, and eventually ends up going through the Point Loma Waste Water Plant.

QQC

"Beets In The Hood"

Quote
"Everybody just says,'Oh I can't grow organic food cheaper', but we don't have to pay $10 a pound for food-I charge $2 a pound and make money. You could be a millionaire."

Question
If someone were to grow their own crops to sell, wouldn't they need to spend money on maintaining a healthy garden? Possibly more money than they would receive.

Comment
I think that it is a good idea to grow your own food. It can somewhat save money and the experiences of growing your own food can teach you a lot.

"Michael Pollan Fixes Dinner"

Quote
"I was so surprised that those diseases that we take for granted as what will kill us- heart disease, cancer,diabetes-were virtually unknown 150 years ago, before we started eating this way."

Question
If someone ate something 150 years ago and died from it, didn't anyone wonder why and investigate?

Comment
150 years ago, no one knew too much about the diseases that were contained within some foods. Still not all foods carry a life threatening disease. In fact there are some that help to prevent these ailments.

"Veg-o-might"

Quote
"Meat is such an obvious delivery device for protein that bodybuilders often use the two words interchangeably."

Question
Is meat the biggest distributor of protein?

Comment
I agree that meat is indeed an excellent source of protein. But eating too much surely cannot be good.
